Welcome to my blog post of Kimono dressing tutor Kogikuya, in Sumiyoshi, Osaka.
English follows.
Some of my Tenugui collection.
Tenugui is traditional Japanese washing cloth which you can use in kitchen and in bathroom.
I remember the designs of Tenugui were not so attractive when I was little, like "Mameshibori"(polka dot design by tie dye) or advertising design with a client's name on it. But today's Tenugui has so many design variations. Like the one I got from Anzu-ya san as an anniversary gift, there are many cute designed Tenuguis now.
For your reference, this is "Mameshibori Tenugi". Now I think it's cute!
A couple days ago, in a TV program, they showed us how to use Tenugui in many ways more than just drying one's hands.
It can be a kitchen mitten just by folding several times as below.
I used to like this Asanoha design(geometric hemp leaves) Tenugui and now it faded away from my overuse. So I was wondering I would use it as a washing cloth in the bathroom. But before that, I can use this as a kitchen mitten.
Just for your information, I wrote an article about making a mask from a Tenugui by folding a couple of years ago in my old blog.
(Wow! It's Asanoha again!)
Thank you for your time to read this post.
