もう10月ですね。
９月は雨続きでしたが、今月は今のところ晴れ間が続いて、気持ちの良い秋となりました。
（と下書きしていたら、雨の日曜日…今日の内容通り、そんなこともある！）
It's already October.
September felt like it was nothing but rain, but so far this month we've been enjoying plenty of sunshine and a wonderfully pleasant autumn.
(Though, as I was drafting this, it turned into a rainy Sunday... which just proves today's story)
９月の連休は、場所にもよると思いますが、関西では前半があまり優れず、後半に晴れ間がのぞきました。
浮かれた我々、その間隙をついてカブ散歩を企みます😁
During the September holiday weekends, at least here in the Kansai area, the weather wasn't great at first, but the skies finally cleared during the second half.
Naturally, we got excited and decided to take the Cub out for a little ride. 😁
が、まず出発の段階で、インカムが壊れた〜（涙）
夫さんの側のがうんともすんとも。
音を拾わない、音が出ない。
まぁ、ほんの数年前まではインカム無しが当たり前だったし、それで何十年と走っていたのだから、全く問題ありません。
気を取り直して出発進行〜🛵
But before we even got going, disaster struck.
Our headsets broke!
My husband's unit stopped working altogether. No sound in, no sound out.
Still, until just a few years ago, riding without headsets was perfectly normal, and we'd spent decades doing exactly that. So really, it wasn't a big problem.
We shook it off and headed out. 🛵
This trip's destination was Makena, a scenic café in the Yabitsu area of Arida.
I'd seen it online before and had always wanted to visit, so I was really looking forward to it.
We were so determined to eat there that we didn't even buy snacks during our rest stop at SAKUAS (which is probably what normal people do anyway...), and we didn't take any photos either. In hindsight, I should have taken at least one for this article.
We headed straight for the café.
And finally...
We arrived!
Only to find every seat occupied, with a very long wait ahead of us.
According to the staff, the combination of a sunny day and a holiday weekend had brought in far more visitors than usual. They said ordinary weekends aren't normally that crowded.
今回の目的地は、有田、矢櫃地区にある、絶景カフェ、マキーナさん！
以前からネットで見て、一度は行きたいっ！と楽しみにしていたところ。
ここで食べるのを楽しみにしていたので、途中休憩で立ち寄ったサクアスではオヤツも食べず（それが普通ですやん…）写真も撮らず（一枚くらい撮っておけば良かった）、お店目指してまっしぐら。
とうちゃーく！
したら、満席、かつ、待ち時間がかなり見込まれて…
お店の方曰く、連休の間の晴れの日なので、いつもよりたくさんのお客様においでいただき、とのこと。
通常の土日ならそこまでは、とのことでしたので、いつか再訪することを楽しみに、次の候補地へ。
So, looking forward to trying again another day, we moved on to our backup destination.
That was Hama no Utase.
...and once again, total defeat. 😂
で、こちら、浜のうたせさん。
…やはり撃沈（涙）
待ち人数がＡ4用紙1枚半ほどもあり、行列に並べないイラチな我々、あっさり諦めます。
隣の産直でパンと缶コーヒーを買って、そのままみかん海道へゴー🛵
The waiting list was about one and a half pages of A4 paper long.
As people with very little patience for standing in lines, we gave up almost immediately.
Instead, we bought some bread and canned coffee from the farmers' market next door and headed for the Mikan Kaido road. 🛵
途中にある東屋…の隣のベンチで休憩することに。
なんと、東屋では、どなたかがウクレレの練習？をされていて、お向かいのベンチに座るのもちょっと、ねぇ、な感じだったので（笑）
木陰ができていて、涼しく、過ごしやすかったので、外のベンチでちょうど良かったです。
We decided to take a break at a bench beside the gazebo along the Mikan Kaido Road.
As it happened, someone were practicing the ukulele inside the gazebo, so sitting directly across from them felt a little awkward. 😆
Fortunately, the bench outside was shaded by trees, cool, and very comfortable, so it worked out perfectly.
On the way there, we'd taken the national highway.
For the ride home, however, we decided to try the newly opened tunnel and headed toward Kainan Ko-gen(Highlands).
The section highlighted in pink on the map is the new tunnel, while the old route is the winding gray road.
And wow...
We were through it in no time.
Too quickly!
往路は国道を通って来ましたが、復路は新しくできたトンネルを走ってみよう！と、海南高原に向かいました。
ピンクで色付けしたところがトンネルで、旧道はグレーのグニャグニャ道。
一瞬で海南に抜けてしまいました。
あっさりすぎっ…
By the way, a new tunnel has also been built along the national highway we used on the outward trip.
But to enjoy the scenery, we chose the old road instead.
And it seemed that quite a few other people had the same idea, because we saw many cars had followed us on the old coastal road.
What about the purpose of the tunnel!?😅
実は往路の国道も、新しくトンネルが作られているのですが、景色を楽しみたい我々、旧道を通って来たのでした。
そして同じ考えの人は他にもたようで、海岸沿いの旧道にはたくさんの車…トンネルの意味（苦笑）
まぁ、災害時に緊急車両が通れる道の確保という目的が大事ですからね。
海南高原では、旧道のグニャグニャが危険ですし、まっすぐな道があっさりだなんて、贅沢な話です。
Well, the real purpose is ensuring emergency vehicles have a reliable route during disasters, and that's what truly matters.
In the Kainan Highlands area, the old winding road can be quite dangerous, so having a straight, safe route is definitely a good thing.
This turned out to be one of those days when nothing seemed to go quite as planned.
But days like that happen.
We still had fun, and that's what counts.
この日は、なんだかなぁ〜なことの連続でしたが、そんな日もありますよね。
楽しかったから、それでヨシ！
お気に入りのシャツと靴だったから、それもヨシ！
I was wearing one of my favorite shirts and my favorite pair of shoes, so that's another win!

We'll definitely give this Cub ride another try someday, and when we do, I'll be sure to take lots of photos and write about it!
